eSUN ePLA-LW Lightweight PLA Filament
ePLA-LW is a lightweight PLA from eSUN developed for model aircraft. It uses active foaming: heat in the nozzle creates tiny bubbles inside the plastic, so printed parts come out much lighter than standard PLA. You control the foaming – and the weight and strength of the part – with the nozzle temperature.
Key features
- Low density: as low as 0.54 g/cm³ when foamed, versus 1.2 g/cm³ for regular PLA (foaming volume ratio up to 220%).
- Less material: one spool of ePLA-LW prints about the same volume as 2.2 spools of standard PLA, according to eSUN.
- Good interlayer adhesion and a matte, fine surface that hides layer lines.
- Easy to paint – ideal for RC planes, gliders, cosplay props and display models.

Printing tips from eSUN
- Disable retraction – with foaming material, retraction can clog the nozzle.
- Print one model at a time to reduce travel moves.
- Keep the print speed constant during the job.
Compatibility
For FDM 3D printers that use 1.75 mm filament and reach at least 190 °C at the nozzle.
